University of Louisiana HBCU says personal data of 44,000 students leaked in November cyber attack

The only historically black Catholic college or university (HBCU) reported a data breach this week that involved Social Security numbers and other personal information of more than 44,000 students and providers.

In filings with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, Xavier University in Louisiana said it suffered a cyberattack on Nov. 22.

“Xavier University has engaged cybersecurity experts to assist in the process,” they wrote, noting on Jan. 24 that “personal information of students and vendors may have been obtained without authorization during the incident.”
