Cybersecurity incident at Berkeley County schools – 19,000 students have the day off

More than 19,000 students got the day off school in Berkeley County on Monday (Feb. 06), but it was a busy day for staff. This is after a cyber security event in the district on Friday. Berkeley County Schools sent a statement saying they are investigating the “cause and scope.”

Berkeley County Schools experienced a network outage Friday that limited IT operations across the district. BCS Schools said their staff worked quickly to notify law enforcement and began an investigation to determine the cause and scope of the incident. “This is an active and collaborative investigation that includes cyber security personnel,” according to a message sent to the families.

Friday’s outage affected phones and the Internet across the county and disabled apps such as one that allows parents to see their child’s bus service in real time without reliability.
